Nephrotic syndrome of acquired syphilis-a morphological and ultrastructural study.

چکیده
The histological and electron microscopic structure of eleven cases of nephrotic syndrome due to acquired syphilis is presented. It was observed that in addition to the usual glomerular cell proliferation, the basement membrane showed a variety of changes including different types of electron dense granular deposits. Such ultras-tructural changes suggest an immune pathogenesis responsible for syphilitic nephropathy (JPMA 31:3, 1981).

Nephrotic syndrome and hepatitis due to acquired syphilis: an uncommon presentation of a re-emerging disease
The association between secondary syphilis and nephrotic syndrome has been documented in the distant past but is particularly rare in modern times. We report the diagnostic dilemma that was the case of a 41-year-old gentleman who presented to hospital with a profound nephrotic syndrome, rash and simultaneous hepatitis. After extensive investigation, a unifying diagnosis of secondary syphilis wa...

The relationship between syphilis and nephropathy has been recognized for >100 years [1]. Nephropathy may appear in either congenital syphilis or the secondary stage of an acquired infection [2,3]. Nephropathy is an infrequent complication of acquired syphilis but may develop clinically in the secondary stage of the infection [3]. Most patients display a nephrotic syndrome [4]. Membranous glome...

Background and Aim: Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) accounts for 10%-20% of all cases of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. These patients are at risk of developing end-stage renal disease. The aim of this study was to determine the demographic characteristics, renal biopsy findings, response to immunosuppressive treatment, and prognosis in pediatric patients with SRNS.Materials and Met...
متن کاملSecondary Syphilis With Hepatitis and Nephrotic Syndrome: A Rare Concurrence
Syphilis, a chronic multisystem disease, is caused by a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. Clinical presentation may expand to several stages including primary, secondary and latent syphilis, which may present as early or late syphilis. Nephrotic syndrome and acute hepatitis are well-known complications of secondary syphilis. To the best of our knowledge, secondary syphilis with coexisting renal a...
متن کاملNephrotic syndrome and hepatitis in early syphilis.
A 54 year old man presented with features of acute hepatitis and the nephrotic syndrome. A diagnosis of active syphilis was only made by chance after extensive investigation. Syphilis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of both acute hepatitis and the nephrotic syndrome occurring separately as well as together.
